On Apr. 25, Officers were notified of a Burglary of Building which occurred in the 1400 block of Boardwalk. The victim advised that someone had entered his locked storage unit and stolen firearms, electronics, sporting goods, and tools. Officers collected evidence at the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
On Apr.28, Officers were notified of a vehicle in the 2400 block of N. Main rolling forward with a subject “Passed out” behind the wheel. Officers located the vehicle and were able to stop the vehicle by placing it in park. They made contact with the operator of the vehicle, Bruce Lee Freelen (45) who was the sole occupant of the vehicle. Officers detected the smell of marijuana, which Freelen explained by saying that the narcotics had been smoked around the vehicle recently. Freelen was detained and checked for intoxication. No intoxication was detected. A search of the vehicle revealed narcotics, marijuana, prescription drugs not prescribed to Freelen, and a kit used to falsify drug testing. Freelen denied ownership of the narcotics, marijuana, and the Drug Test Falsification Kit. He advised the pills had been given to him by a friend, unknown name. Freelen was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Dangerous Drug, and Possession of a False Drug Test. He was booked and taken to county jail.
On Apr. 28, The department was notified of a theft occurring in the 3800 block of Lamar Avenue. The suspect stole approximately 1600.00 worth of tools and gardening equipment from the business by simply walking out without attempting to pay for the merchandise. Officers viewed evidence and received information from the reporting party enabling them to locate information identifying the suspect. It was discovered that the suspect has two previous convictions for theft under $2500.00. The incident remains under investigation.
On Apr. 28, Officers received notification of a Theft of Petroleum Products occurring in the 5100 block of SE Loop 286. Allegedly the suspect came to the business after hours and stole several hundred dollars worth of diesel fuel from an outside storage tank. Officers received digital evidence of the suspect coming to the property on multiple occasions and dates and investigators are currently in the process of identifying the suspect.
Officers made 26 traffic stops, 5 adult arrest, and answered 84 calls for service during this reporting period.
