Paris Independent School District once again came together to support the Downtown Food Pantry through its annual “Stuff the Bus” competition — but with a new twist this year. Instead of the traditional stuffing drive, the district took on a new challenge to collect protein donations after the pantry secured enough stuffing for this year.
Students and staff across the district rose to the occasion, donating more than 2,800 cans of tuna and other protein items to help local families in need. Crockett Intermediate School claimed the Traveling Turkey Trophy for the second year in a row, contributing over 1,300 cans to this year’s total.
Since the friendly competition began in 2017, Paris ISD has donated more than 25,000 food items to the Downtown Food Pantry.
Jennifer Ray, drive director and original founder of the event, expressed pride in the district’s continued spirit of giving. “Every year, our students and staff rise to the challenge and show incredible compassion for others,” said Ray. “Even when we change the focus of our drive, their generosity never wavers. It’s truly a blessing to see how much good can come from a little friendly competition.”
Allan Hubbard, Executive Director of the Downtown Food Pantry, shared his gratitude for the partnership. “Paris ISD continues to make a real difference for families in our community,” Hubbard said. “This time of year, the need is always great, and the district’s commitment helps us ensure that no one goes without. Their support means more than they’ll ever know.”
The “Stuff the Bus” competition began nine years ago as a friendly challenge between Jennifer Ray and Paris High School Assistant Principal Sabrina Day. It has since grown into a beloved district-wide tradition that continues to inspire teamwork, generosity, and community pride.
