Paris High School senior Atajdren Gill was recently named a 2021 State Scholar by the Horatio Alger Association, receiving a scholarship worth $10,000.
As one of the nation’s largest need-based college scholarship programs in the country, the Horatio Alger Scholarship Programs specifically assist high school students who have faced and overcome great obstacles in their young lives.
“While many programs are directed primarily to recognizing academic achievement or leadership potential, the Horatio Alger Association seeks students who have exhibited determination, integrity, and perseverance in overcoming adversity, as well as have critical financial need,” said the association online.
According to the website, by the association’s 75th Anniversary in 2022, they anticipate having awarded a total of $235 million in scholarships to more than 35,000 deserving students.
“This is a nation-wide scholarship with thousands of applicants every year. Way to go, Atajdren,” said PHS online.
