Paris Fire Department gets into the spirit of giving

Christmas miracles can be found in every shape and form and just this week the Paris Fire Department went above and beyond to deliver them a little Christmas joy.

Earlier this week, the department was visited by Montana McCraw whoa asked if she was able to borrow a ladder to hang Christmas lights on her house for her family.

“I was going to help my dad put them up; I didn’t expect them to show up and help, let alone bring a truck,” she said.

Montana’s mom suffers from lupus, fibromyalgia, and seizures, she explained. McCraw said her illnesses make it difficult for her mom to be able to help decorate for the holidays.

What she didn’t expect was the boys from C-Shift turn up the next day, on their day off, ready to hang lights on their two-story home on 8th SW St.

“We didn’t think twice about coming out and hanging the lights for the McCraw family,” said Paris Fire Captain Chad Graves.

“We love getting these kinds of calls from people in the community,” said firefighter Monty Middleton. “We want to help wherever we can.”

“We’ve been here since about 2 p.m., and so far it is going great,” said Captain Jay Daughtrey.

After spending several hours climbing on the roof hanging lights, the crew then called Station 4  to enlist their help with the ladder truck.

“Safety first,” said firefighter Dreyton McCarthy. “We knew our ladder was a little too short to get the finishing touches done so we thought it was best to use the equipment we knew would help,”

“It feels amazing to have all the lights strung up. My whole family was both shocked and amazed at the kindness shown to help us out,” said McCraw.

McCraw said she wanted the boys to know just how much the family appreciated them coming out.

“They do so much more than fight fires or respond to accidents. I pray every day that all law enforcement, medical and fire personnel make it home safely,” said McCraw.
