Officials have determined that a cooking fire involving a grill was the accidental cause of a fire that destroyed a home on Castlegate Drive on Tuesday.
Around 4 p.m., the Paris Fire Department received a call of a chair on fire in the rear of the residence in the 4100 block of Castlegate Drive.
While en route to the scene, the call was updated to structure fire as flames spread into the attic of the home.
“Upon arrival, fire crews found a fully involved structure fire with the added danger of a 120-gallon propane tank near the house,” said Jon McFadden, City of Paris Public Information Officer. “Firefighters began applying water to both the structure and the propane tank to prevent overheating and reduce the risk of a potential explosion.”
Firefighters used a swift and coordinated response, bringing the fire under control and clearing the scene at approximately 7:00 P.M.
No injuries were reported, but a family pet was lost in the blaze.
Paris EMS, Paris Police, the American Red Cross and Lamar County Emergency Management also assisted at the scene.
