A disturbance call escalated into a deadly officer-involved shooting Wednesday in Paris, leaving a suspect dead and a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper injured.
Police received a report on Wednesday afternoon involving a man brandishing a knife towards a citizen in a local parking lot.
Officers located the man a short time later and conducted a traffic stop, with a Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper assisting.
During the encounter, the driver refused to comply with officers’ commands and produced a knife, injuring the assisting DPS Trooper.
An officer with the Paris Police Department discharged his duty weapon, striking the subject.
The suspect was transported to Paris Regional Health, where he was later pronounced deceased.
The injured trooper was also transported, treated, and released.
The Texas Ranger Division is investigating and investigation remains ongoing, and no further information is available at this time.
