North Lamar High School senior Kanyon Williams has officially signed to continue his academic and athletic career at Southeastern Oklahoma State University, where he will play baseball at the collegiate level.
Kanyon is the son of Leah Williams and Kevin Arnold, and the grandson of Lynn Parnell, Danny Arnold, and Alice Arnold. Family members and supporters gathered to celebrate this exciting milestone as Kanyon committed to the next chapter of his journey.
This signing carries special meaning for Kanyon and his family, as he becomes a third-generation Savage, continuing a proud legacy at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Kanyon follows in the footsteps of his grandfather, mother, aunt, and cousin, further strengthening the family’s long-standing connection to the Savage tradition.
Kanyon began his time at North Lamar in the 6th grade, participating in middle school basketball, cross country, and baseball. As he transitioned into high school, he narrowed his focus to baseball, competing in a highly competitive district that helped shape him into the player he is today. In addition to athletics, Kanyon has been an active member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and National Honor Society, reflecting his commitment to leadership, character, and academics.
North Lamar Baseball Head Coach Bric Steed spoke highly of Kanyon’s character and potential.
“Kanyon is one of the most wonderful young men I have come in contact with. He has a pure heart and a kind spirit. He is a powerful athlete with tremendous potential. He is probably the strongest, fastest kid at our school, and he hasn’t scratched the surface of his abilities. I believe he can be a professional baseball player, and he will start that journey at Southeastern Oklahoma State University while getting his degree. They are lucky to have him. We are excited to see this year and where he leads this team.”
Reflecting on his own journey, Kanyon shared that his parents have been the biggest influence in his life. “They guided me through my journey and took the time and effort to get me to where I am,” he said.
One of Kanyon’s favorite memories at North Lamar was being part of the baseball team that advanced to the third round of playoffs during his sophomore year, a moment he says he will always remember.
When asked what advice he would give to younger Panther athletes, Kanyon said, “Follow your goals, give it all you have to achieve them, and don’t let anyone discourage you.”
North Lamar ISD congratulates Kanyon Williams on this outstanding achievement and looks forward to watching him continue his baseball career while carrying on the Savage legacy at the next level.
