The North Lamar High School Wind Ensemble has advanced to the State Semifinals of the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Honor Band Competition after earning second place in the Area Round of judging.
The TMEA Honor Band Competition is one of the most prestigious recognitions available to school band programs in Texas. The process evaluates recorded performances from bands across the state through multiple rounds of competition, identifying the top ensembles at each classification level.
For this year’s submission, the North Lamar Wind Ensemble submitted recordings of Radiowaves by Fred Jewell, Saturn Returns by Michael Markowski, and An Original Suite by Gordon Jacob. The recordings were made during the ensemble’s performance on April 17.
Advancing to the state semifinals places North Lamar among the top band programs in Texas and reflects the dedication, musicianship, and hard work of both students and directors throughout the year.
Semifinal judging will take place July 15 during the Texas Bandmasters Association Conference in San Antonio. Bands advancing from the semifinal round will compete in the state finals on July 16.
“We are incredibly proud of our students and directors for this achievement,” said North Lamar High School Band Director Austin Snow. “The Honor Band process is highly competitive, and advancing to the state semifinals is a testament to the countless hours of preparation, commitment, and passion these students bring to the band program.”
