The North Lamar Education Foundation hosted its first ever Shoot for Scholarships event during halftime of the North Lamar vs. Sulphur Springs Panther basketball game on Friday night, February 13, bringing excitement to the court and opportunity to four deserving seniors.
From a group of students who signed up to participate, four seniors were selected: Dalia Bernardino, Ricardo Mejia, Deondre Manning, and Sirrus Twitty.
After an intense and entertaining competition, Deondre Manning and Sirrus Twitty found themselves tied with seven points each at the end of regulation. The crowd cheered them on as they moved into a tie-breaker round. In the final showdown, Deondre secured the win with five points to Sirrus’s four, earning him the championship title.
As the winner of the shootout, Deondre Manning was awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the North Lamar Education Foundation. He plans to attend the University of Minnesota-Crookston, where he will major in criminal justice.
The North Lamar Education Foundation awards scholarships each year to graduating seniors who plan to attend colleges or trade schools following graduation. Events like Shoot for Scholarships not only engage the community but also highlight the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to supporting students in their educational journeys.
