Nellie Fay Adams, 90, of Fate, formerly of Paris, passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2026.
Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 15th at Bright-Holland Funeral Home with Rev. Craig Adams, Rev. Robert Myre, and Rev. Caleb Adams officiating. Burial will be made in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
Mrs. Adams, the daughter of James Ed Humphrey and Iva Agnes Armer Humphrey, was born Aug. 11, 1935, in Lamar County, TX. She had a long and successful career with Home Interior and Gifts. Nellie was a master gardener, loved flowers, and will be remembered for her famous biscuits and chocolate gravy. She was a skilled artist in embroidery, crochet, quilting, sewing, and crafts. As a God-fearing woman who loved Jesus with all her heart, she was a faithful member of the United Pentecostal Church. Nellie had been mother of the year at her church and worked tirelessly in the nursery. She enjoyed volunteering in activities at local nursing homes and while she was a resident of Highland Meadows Health and Rehabilitation Center for the last nine years she stayed active by helping others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joe Henry Adams, whom she married on Oct. 13, 1951, building 45 years of family and memories before his death on April 9, 1997. Two sons, David Darrell Adams and Marcus Henry Adams, a daughter, Linda Jo Smallwood, a granddaughter, Jessica Fay Gilpin, two great grandchildren, Stoney Adams and Konnor Helms and all her siblings.
Survivors include three children, Harold Gene Adams and wife Vicki, Karran Gilpin and husband Steve, and Craig Adams and wife Caronda, a daughter-in-law, Brenda Adams, a son-in-law, Jerry Smallwood, a granddaughter whom she and her husband reared as their own, Lacy Glenn, 12 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 17 great great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. Nellie was greatly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
Casket bearers will be: Steven Adams, Seth Adams, Jeff Humphrey, Chayden Adams, Grayson Gilpin, and Kyle Gilpin.
