Nancy Ruth Thompson passed away on January 23, 2026, at the age of 81. She was born on November 1, 1944, in Paris, Texas, the fifth of six children born to Ordra Lester and Vera Mae Chapman.
Ruth married Gail Thompson on September 23, 1966, enjoying over 49 years of marriage and raising their daughter Wendy. Nothing brought Ruth and Gail more joy than their grandchildren, Jonathan and Amy. They treasured time spent together, shared holidays, and proudly attended every special event possible.
Ruth began her education at Lone Star School near her family home in Faught, Texas. She then graduated from Paris High School and attended Paris Junior College. Ruth worked more than 33 years at First Federal Community Bank in Paris where she formed many lasting friendships. After retirement, Ruth remained a devoted member of the First Federal Retiree Club throughout her life.
Following her husband, Gail’s, passing in 2015, Ruth shared her remaining years with her beloved sisters, Gail Farmer and Wanda Thorpe. Together they enjoyed many extended family gatherings, travels, and concerts, and they were known for bringing joy wherever they went through their kind ways, love of fun, and infectious laughter. She, along with her sisters, was an active and beloved member at Springlake Baptist Church, singing in the choir and serving the church community in various ways.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gail Thompson, and her brother Garland Ray Chapman (June) all of Paris. Survivors include one daughter, Wendy Cox and husband Ben of Robinson, Texas; grandson, Jonathan Cox currently living in Palma de Mallorca, Spain; granddaughter Amy Cox currently living in Melbourne, Australia; two brothers Wayne Chapman (Pat) and Jimmie Chapman (Jan) of Paris and two sisters Gail Farmer of Paris and Wanda Thorpe of Yantis along with many nieces, nephews and a host of friends. In lieu of usual floral memorials the family requests donations be made to Gideons International, P. O. Funeral services will be held on Monday. February 2, at 11:00 a.m. at the Bright-Holland Funeral Home Chapel in Paris with the Rev. Mike Clark and Rev. Guille Seigler officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Red Hill Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be: Joe Farmer, Thomas Farmer, Doug Farmer, Ryan Farmer, Eddie McGlamery, and Jeff Haney.
