A mural in the hallway of North Lamar High School was painted in memory of fallen Marine Sgt. Jay M. Hoskins by senior art student Alex Copeland.
Sgt. Hoskins graduated from North Lamar in 2003 and died while serving in Afghanistan. Coincidently, Copeland will be serving in the Marines after high school.
A presentation of the Marine Sgt. Jay M. Hoskins Memorial Scholarship will be presented to a 2021 North Lamar graduate on May 27. Other recipients are Megan Grogan in 2018 and Brooke Collard in 2019.
A mural in memory of Marine Sgt. Jay M. Hoskins now occupies part of the hallway at North Lamar High School. The 2003 graduate was painted by senior art student Alex Copeland, right of the mural, who also will be serving in the U. S. Marines. Left of the mural are NLHS Assistant Principal Patrick Fuller and step-father and mother of Sgt. Hoskins, Chris and Michelle Widner. Others alongside Copeland are Alex Nava (recently enlisted in the Marines), Daniel Beltran (assisted with the mural), Adriana Perez (assisted with the mural and is anticipating on enlisting into the Marines), Brian Lutz (recently enlisted in the Marines), NLHS art instructor Brandi Peel and Blake Lee (recently enlisted in the Marines).
