Mitchell “Mitch” Ray Akard 66 passed away July 4, 2023 at Paris Regional Health. Family will have a visitation Wednesday July 12th from 6-8 pm at Fry-Gibbs funeral home to come share stories and celebrate his life. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home.
Mitch was born August 16, 1956 to Richard Ralph Akard Jr and Lois Dickerson Akard in Paris Texas.
Anyone that knew Mitch, knew he never met a stranger; from camp host at Pat Mayes lake and mingling with all of the guests, to all of the camping trips to Albert Pike to meeting people from all over, and to his discovery of Facebook and all of the people he could talk to all over the world, after he could no longer physically camp. Early days he volunteered as a fireman in Pleasant Grove, and once he was physically unable to camp or continue being a volunteer fireman, he volunteered his time with a lending ear, listening to anyone that needed advice or to just vent.
He is survived by his children; Jason Wesley Akard and wife, Anna, Amanda Suzanne Young, and husband, BJ; Grandchildren, Ryan Elizabeth Akard, Cameron Kate Akard, Logan Brooke Akard, Trysten Levi Maynard, Alyssa Brooke Parker, Aubree Claire Parker, and bonus grandchild Trevor Young; sisters, Jeri Janelle Quarles and Jo Akard Skabo.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents, his only brother, Mike Akard, numerous uncles, and the mother of his children- Teri Skidmore. Should friends desire, contributions may be sent to a charity/facility of your choosing. Or if you would like to donate time, please help a neighbor in need. Mitch would help anyone he possibly could whether it was financially or physically.
