In a ‘Supplemental Local Disaster for Public Health Emergency Order No. 2’ issued on Friday, Mayor Steve Clifford is strongly encouraging citizens to wear “face coverings” when in public.

The order reads, all persons over the age of five are strongly encouraged to wear some form of covering over their noses and mouths, such as a homemade mask, scarf, bandana or hankerchief, when: entering or inside any building open to the public; when using transportation, taxis or ride shares; or when pumping gas.

Additionally, recommendations for essential retail providers regarding social distancing were also given. It states, essential retail service providers allowed by the GA-14 to continue operations, including by not limited to grocery stores, general retail stores, and home improvement stores, are strongly encouraged to implement policies to limit the number of people in their stores at any one time so as to effectively observe the President’s and the CDC’s social distancing recommendations.

As of today, there have been 5 confirmed coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Lamar a County and 191 in self-quarantine/monitoring.
