North Lamar ISD is proud to announce Karen Leonard, Pre-Kindergarten teacher at Everett Elementary, and Katlin Mobley, Agricultural Science teacher, as the district’s Employees of the Month. Representatives from Mathews Auto Group visited campus yesterday to present each honoree with a token of appreciation as part of the company’s community-minded Pay It Forward program.
Colleagues describe Mrs. Leonard as the model of a great teacher—deeply knowledgeable about grade-level curriculum, compassionate with students who need extra help, and a true partner to families. “When I think about what makes a great teacher, I think of Karen Leonard,” one colleague shared, noting years of working alongside her in Kindergarten, Special Education, and now Pre-K. “She builds student confidence, works hand-in-hand with parents, and supports teammates across grade levels. Her past and present students, parents, and co-workers love her—she’s a definite asset to North Lamar.”
Mrs. Mobley is praised for the way she extends learning beyond the classroom and into the community. “She goes above and beyond for kids,” a colleague said. “You’ll find her cheering at their sporting events and leading engaging, real-world projects—like her floral design students’ Homecoming mums—that connect academic skills to authentic experiences.” Her classroom culture and hands-on activities exemplify the district’s commitment to relevant, community-connected learning.
North Lamar ISD extends heartfelt thanks to Mathews Auto Group for recognizing outstanding educators and for their ongoing support of local schools through the Pay It Forward program.
