Martin Andrew “Marty” Scoggins, 66, of Columbus, Texas, succumbed to an 11-month battle with esophageal cancer, on Wednesday, June 12, 2019.

Bright-Holland Funeral Home has scheduled a Memorial Service with Military Honors for 2:00 pm, June 29, 2019, at the First Baptist Church of Pecan Gap with Reverend Ken Cannon officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to service time.

Martin was born April 1, 1953, in Waxahachie, Texas to Johnny Martin Scoggins and Earline Parrish Scoggins. He was a graduate of Bland High School, where his father was the superintendent. His attendance at East Texas State University in Commerce was interrupted by his entry into the United States Air Force, where he proudly served for the next three years prior to his honorable discharge. He was a manager for 10 years of his 30-year employment with Thousand Trails Corporation. Marty loved traveling and all kinds of outdoor activities. He was of the Christian faith and Baptist by choice.

We were preceded in death by his grandparents and his father.

Survivors include his mother, Earline Parrish Scoggins of Paris; one brother, Jeff Scoggins & wife Linda of Paris; a niece, Kaylynn Dwiggins and fiancé Zac Hiner, of Bakersfield, CA; one great-niece, Hayden Dwiggins; one great-nephew, Johnny Dwiggins, along with many dear friends and co-workers.

The family extends the deepest appreciation to Dr. Prakash and the staff at Texas Oncology as well as the wonderful caregivers at Heritage House of Paris. In lieu of usual floral memorials, the family requests memorials are made, in Marty’s memory, to the American Cancer Society or to someone’s church.
