Martha Jeanette Wilson Porterfield, 86, of Paris, TX passed away Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2024.
Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31st at Bright-Holland Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Strempke officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
Martha, the daughter of Barney Wilson & Earline Short Wilson, was born Nov. 21, 1937, in Pattonville, TX. Martha was the first grandchild of the Short family. She grew up in the Wilson Grocery Store. She graduated from East Lamar High School, having been a cheerleader, FFA Sweetheart, and an honor student. She enjoyed music and singing, and Martha loved playing the piano.
Martha married Alson Porterfield Oct. 29, 1955. Following Alson’s graduation from Texas A&M College Station, they lived in several places, but Weatherford was their second home town. Al was city engineer and they owned the first pizza business there.
Martha loved her family and was always first and foremost a wife and mother. Martha was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church and active in her Sunday school class.
Survivors include two children, Jayson Porterfield (Lesley), and Tamara Jean Porterfield (Carolyn), grandchildren, Pierce Porterfield, Owen Porterfield, and Travis Williams, a sister, Betty Slayden & husband Jimmy along with several nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alson, a son, Phillip Wilson Porterfield, her parents, Barney & Earline Wilson, and an infant sister, Virginia Wilson.
