For 12-year-old North Lamar ISD student, Kain Davis, spending his spare time helping the Lamar County Adopt-A-Cop flag program was more than just community service—it was a chance to honor his country, support local law enforcement, and learn the true meaning of the American flag.
“It’s truly amazing that he gave his time to help with the Lamar County Adopt-A-Cop flag program. His dedication, work ethic, and willingness to serve is inspiring,” said Lamar County Adopt-A-Cop president Amanda Willows.
Not only did Davis help pick-up over 50 flags across Reno and the surrounding areas, but he helped unload 78 flags into storage to prepare for the next holiday.
“He never once complained or hesitated. Along the way, he learned about flag etiquette and the true meaning of the American flag. We couldn’t be more proud of you, Kain, and also want to thank everyone participating in our flag program.”
The Lamar County Adopt-A-Cop flag program gives residents the opportunity to honor our country and support our Armed Forces by displaying the American flag in their yard for six flag holidays a year.
For those who sign up, a team will install a plastic sleeve flush with the ground near the curb in the front yard of residences or businesses to accomodate a pole mounted 3’X5′ flag.
On Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Patriot Day, and Veterans Day, volunteers will install the pole with the flag and then pick it up after the holiday.
For an additional fee, you can also have a pole and flag installed with a Thin Blue Line flag for National Police Week and Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.
For an American flag, the cost is $35 annually (four or more flags in the same location are $30 each).
For the Thin Blue Line flag, the cost is $20 annually.
All proceeds from the program goes to the Lamar County Adopt-A-Cop program, a non-profit that helps provide safety equipment, trained needs, and advocacy for local police and first responders.
