Lamar County Adopt-A-Cop is again stepping up when Texans need help the most in hosting a ‘Disaster Relief Drive’ for those affected by Hurricane Laura.
“Texans are strong and stick together through the hard times,” said Lamar County Adopt-A-Cop president Amanda Willows. “While Lamar County wasn’t affected by the storm, many south of us were and we want to show our love and support by sending relief items during these hard times.”
Hurricane Laura made landfall as a Category 4 storm around 1 a.m. Thursday with sustained winds of 150 mph causing widespread damage in Louisiana and parts of Texas. According to reports, at least four people were killed in the storm.
“We have been in contact with the city of Orange and will be sending supplies down there,” said Willows. “They sustained major wind damage and will be without power for weeks. Many families have been displaced and we want to do what we can to help them.”
Items that are needed the most include tarps, totes, bottled water, disinfecting supplies, batteries, flashlights, toiletries, formula, baby wipes and diapers, paper towels, and cleaning supplies.
Those wanting to donate can drop supplies off at Topp Gunn Auto Auction located at 6920 Lamar Road in Reno or Ed Wallace Ford located at 1700 E Jackson in Hugo, OK, beginning 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug, 29.
Fuel donations are also being accepted for volunteers driving to Orange to deliver supplies.
“We want to give a big shout out to Topp Gunn Auto and Ed Wallace Ford for being drop-off locations and Summit Paving, Dave Willows, and Cameron Kremers for volunteering to drive.”
