Four Lamar County firemen on Monday deployed to the Texas Panhandle near Dumas to help contain the Blue Creek fire.
Captain Chad Graves and firefighter Corey Parks with the Paris Fire Department were deployed to assist in a multi-department task force. Interim Paris Fire Department Chief Thomas McMonigle said the pair will be assisting in West Texas for up to seven days. Fellow local fireman Michael Fox with the Allen Fire Department has also been deployed to the Blue Creek fire alongside Graves and Parks.
Zachary Wilkerson, with the Texas A&M Forest Service, deployed last week to west Texas.
As of Monday afternoon, the Blue Creek fire is at 40-percent containment with a total size of 4,500 acres burned, according to the Texas A&M Wildfire Incident Response System. Officials said the fire began in the early-morning hours on Saturday, July 11.
Each person coming in to fight the fire will be part of a task force consisting of firefighters from McKinney, Paris, Allen, Amarillo, San Angelo, and Dallas.
