When 7-year-old Brody Parsons left Paris, Texas on July 29, he was already known as one of the top calf riders in the nation. But when he returned home from the Youth Bull Rider World Finals in Abilene, he came back with something even bigger — a world champion title.
“He was so proud that all his hard work paid off and I cried a lot of happy tears,” said mom, Ashley Jess Parsons. “He trains a lot and spends his mornings on the drop barrel and his afternoons at Gary Leffers training. We also drive to Houston a lot to practice at Culpepper Bucking Bulls. He deserved this.”
Competing against 56 of the top calf riders from all over the world, Parsons not only left a world champion but he was the only competitor to cover all four calves.
“He covered day one and two, which put him second in the world and kind of shocked us all,” laughed Parsons. “On Friday he covered his calf and that put him in the number one spot, so going into the short go, all he had to do was cover it — it didn’t matter if he scored good or not.”
With all the hard work paying off and a world championship title under his belt, Parsons will now head to Ada, OK, and compete at the PYRA on Oct. 7-11.
“After that we head to the Big Dirty South Invitational at the start of November, where he will compete against the top riders in the country. Until then, he will be helping Gary Leffew with some training and training for the upcoming events also.”
