As 27 men, women and children are housed at Lamar County Human Resource Council’s Horizon House, a transitional shelter, the organization is in need of community support during its supply drive.
“The shelter relies solely on local donations to house and care for individuals who are currently experiencing homelessness,” LCHRC Executive Director Shelly Braziel said. “The purpose of a transitional program, is to provide individuals with the tools they need to prevent any future occurrences of homelessness. Most of our residents work or receive social security, and they use those funds to save up to enable them to move out into a safe, sustainable home at the end of the two years.”
The Horizon House in Paris is hosting a supply drive through Jan. 1, 2020, and the LCHRC asks for community help.
Supplies the organization is in need of include:
- Toilet Paper
- Paper Towels
- Black Trash Bags 13 Gallon and 55 Gallon
- Carpet Cleaner
- Liquid Floor Cleaner (member’s mark)
- All-purpose Cleaner (member’s mark)
- Commercial Sanitizer (member’s mark)
- Gloves (medium, Large, XL)
- Hair Nets
- Dish Pods
- Laundry Detergent
- Hand Sanitizer
- Face Masks
“With so many people residing at Horizon House, we go through a lot of toilet paper and trash bags, so those seem to be the highest needs,” Braziel said. “The brands are only listed as a suggestion, as Member’s Mark tends to be cheaper and does a better job for what we need.”
Braziel said money the organization receives comes from local foundations, businesses and community members, which enables housing for two years.
“With that said, our funding does not cover the full cost of items needed for daily living,” she said. “Things like toilet paper, paper towels, and soap are needed throughout the year, and in order to provide those items, we need members of the community to donate.”
Items and monetary donations made to LCHRC can be shipped to Horizon House, P.O Box 714 Paris, Texas 75461, “and those funds will be used to purchase off the list.”
Items can also be dropped off at Horizon House at 450 SW 4th St in Paris.
Braziel said the items listed are needed throughout the year, and if anyone is able to donate monthly or quarterly, contact the Lamar County Human Resource Council’s Horizon House at 903-784-2580.
“We appreciate the support of our community so much, and we absolutely could not do what we do without you,” Braziel said.
