Through January, Lamar County Human Resource Council’s Horizon House, a transitional shelter, is hosting its annual supply drive.
“The purpose of a transitional program, is to provide individuals with the tools they need to prevent any future occurrences of homelessness,” LCHRC Executive Director Shelly Braziel previously said. “Most of our residents work or receive social security, and they use those funds to save up to enable them to move out into a safe, sustainable home at the end of the two years.”
Supplies the organization is in need of include:
- All-purpose cleaner
- Trash bags
- Paper towels
- Toilet paper
- Dish soap
Braziel said money the organization receives comes from local businesses and community members, which enables housing for two years.
“Our funding does not cover the full cost of items needed for daily living,” she said. “Things like toilet paper, paper towels, and soap are needed throughout the year, and in order to provide those items, we need members of the community to donate.”
Items can also be dropped off at Horizon House at 450 SW 4th St in Paris.
Items and monetary donations made to LCHRC can be shipped to Horizon House, P.O Box 714 Paris, Texas 75461, “and those funds will be used to purchase off the list.”
Braziel said the items listed are needed throughout the year, and if anyone is able to donate monthly or quarterly, contact the Lamar County Human Resource Council’s Horizon House at 903-784-2580.
“We appreciate the support of our community so much, and we absolutely could not do what we do without you,” Braziel said.
