Larry Porter Slagle of Paris passed away April 29th, 2026 in Rockwall, Texas. He was 75.
Larry was born January 12, 1951 and graduated from Paris High School in 1969 going on to Paris Junior College where he studied art. He joined the security team at the legendary Armadillo World Headquarters music venue in Austin where he climbed the ranks to become Backstage Manager for acts such as BB King, Journey, Santana, Linda Ronstadt, Frank Zappa, and the Pointer Sisters, amongst others. He married Suzette Marie Jacobs in the 70s and had one son, William Jacob Brandon Slagle.
Back in Paris in the 80s, he sold cars with his father, W.P. Slagle and Uncle Adell at Slagle Brothers Used Cars on North Main before opening his own location, continuing to work with them until the business closed in 1987. He moved on to Town East Ford in Mesquite, Texas and later worked at Dolphin Docks and Deep Sea Headquarters on South Padre Island where he was known for hosting epic 48-hour fishing trips in the Gulf of Mexico.
Larry settled again in Paris in the 90s, joining Dyson & Glass Motors as well as other regional dealerships throughout the years.
Being an avid water skier, he could often be seen maneuvering the slalom course he designed with others on Pat Mayse Lake. Larry loved fishing, hunting, tennis, music, art – having the ability to create life-like charcoal etchings of prolific figures including Marilyn Monroe. He nurtured his son’s own elaborate musical and motion picture ambition and never once told him not to pursue his dreams.
Larry is survived by his mother, Loy Nell Slagle, sisters Becky Flippen (Gary) of Paris, Carol Buster of Caviness (Russ), Jerie Gomer of Blackwood, New Jersey, brother Jeff Slagle (Lisa) of Paris, son Brandon Slagle of Los Angeles, California. granddaughter Everleigh Elisabeth Belle also of Los Angeles and numerous, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
Larry was preceded in death by his Father, William Porter Slagle aka “Pete” aka “W.P.”, nephew John William Buster, and fishing partner/brother-in-law Roy Buster.
