Lamar Electric Cooperative announced the winners of the Government-in-Action Youth Tour 2023, congratulating Rivercrest High School Junior Gus Tietjen and Trinity Christian Academy Junior Brennan Plett.
Each year, Lamar Electric Cooperative selects two exemplary high school students to attend the Government-in-Action Youth Tour. This is an all-expenses-paid tour of Washington, D.C., which includes visiting the U.S. Capitol and meeting members of Congress.
The students submitted an essay on the topic, “What is the most pressing issue in the electric industry today?” Many essays were submitted, but only two were selected for this all-expense-paid trip.
This annually sponsored tour features a 10-day, all-expensespaid trip in June to Austin and Washington, D.C., coordinated by Texas Electric Cooperatives and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association. This year’s winners will join more than 150 of their peers from across the state and more than 1,900 from around the country for a tour of the nation’s capital, meetings with congressional representatives and educational opportunities.
