The Lamar County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam in which callers claim to be from a bank or credit union, saying your debit card has been compromised.
“They will tell you your debit card has been compromised and ask for your card information. Do not give out your debit card number, PIN, or any other personal information over the phone. If the scammers get your information, they will use it to buy money orders, gift cards, and other items that are difficult to track.”
