A fundraising benefit for Janet Hohenberger Wheeler, Roxton’s beloved city manager who has been battling illness for the past two years, will be held on Labor Day.
The family-friendly event will feature a silent and live auction, bake sale, chicken poop bingo, 50/50 drawing, snowcones, popcorn, and a BBQ chicken dinner special at Roxton Grocery & Cafe.
Without a doubt, the highlight of the auction will be a Walker, Texas Ranger belt buckle and cast chairs once given to Country Music Association of Texas Hall of Famer R.J. Vandygriff, who has generously donated the items.
“The buckle has never been worn, it’s mounted in a shadow box,” said Vandygriff. “I was one of two rangers to receive one of these buckles.”
Vandygriff will also bring his award-winning vocals to the stage at 7 p.m., joined by J.D. Moss and Earl Gaddy, for a night of entertainment.
The day kicks-off at 4 p.m. with the silent auction, bake sale, and chicken poop bingo.
A BBQ chicken dinner, with potato salad, baked beans and drink, will be available to purchase starting at 5:30 p.m. at Roxton Grocery & Cafe. The silent auction closes at this time too.
At 5:45 p.m., the winner of the We Care Paris mystery gun will be announced and the live auction will commence at 6 p.m. followed by the concert.
All proceeds from the event will go to benefit Janet.
For those who can’t make the event but would like to help Janet, donations can be made at Commercial Bank of Texas (Roxton branch).
