Keep Paris Beautiful will hold its annual Tree Giveaway and Electronics Recycle event on Feb. 28 in the Lamar County Courthouse parking lot.
“Keep Paris Beautiful is excited to host this event for the 17th year,” said KPB Executive Director Julia Trigg Crawford. “People have been asking us about the trees and recycling for months, and we’re glad the day is finally here. After last week’s winter weather, we’ll all enjoy getting back in our yards to plant these little trees. They go fast, so make sure and arrive early to get the best selection.”
The event will begin at 8 a.m. and end at noon.
On the south end of the parking lot, Keep Paris Beautiful Board Members will set up distribute over 1000 two-foot-tall bare root saplings free of charge.
These trees are specifically chosen for Lamar County soils by the Texas Forestry Service.
This year the species includes three types of Oaks (Shumard, Nuttall, and Cherry Bark), as well as Pecan and Bald Cypress.
Each family can receive up to 5 trees of their choice, depending on availability.
On the north end of the parking lot, local residents can drop off a wide variety of recyclable electronics and home appliances.
There is no charge, and City of Paris workers will be available to help unload everything for you.
Eligible items include:
- computers
- monitors
- televisions
- printers
- old stereo equipment
- kitchen appliances
- electronics cables, and more
They’ll even take refrigerators, freezers and windows A/C units, but the Freon must be drained before drop-off.
“We also know folks have been gathering up all their old electronics and appliances getting ready for this drop-off, and we encourage local businesses, schools, banks, and churches to do the same. Let’s clear out our storerooms and fill up the recycling truck this year. A big thank you to our event partners who make this day such a success — the Texas Forestry Service, Keystone Enterprises, the United Way of Lamar County, the City of Paris, and Lamar County Government. This is always a fun morning, and we look forward to seeing everyone there.”
