Jerry Lee Harrell, music aficionado, and outdoors man, passed away in the comfort of his home on June 1, 2026.
Jerry was born August 6, 1960 in Gary, Indiana. He was raised by his grandparents, Troy and Violleta Harrell and in his words, “they were the best parents a man could ever ask for”. He loved them very much and one of his fondest memories was riding across the country from Indiana to California with them; a trip they made numerous times.
Jerry was a walking Wikipedia of music knowledge. He liked the good music; music that was made in the 80’s. He was a fan of country and was a well known Karaoke star. Fishing was a family tradition as well as any sport that was played outside.
He felt a real sense of accomplishment when he got the job at the Lamar County Sheriff’s Department. He served in Law Enforcement for over 23 years and security for over 10 years, but his true inspiration in life was his wife, Tammy and their two children. Family was the most important thing to Jerry; right behind Jesus.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 42 years, Tammy Harrell; children, Daniel Glenn Harrell and Penny Lee Jones; grandchild, Lydia Harper Tidwell; mother, Myrtle Nelams; sisters, Kathi Foreman and Ruby Sorrenson and Karen Nelams; brothers, Mark Nelams, Donny Nelams and David Nelams; aunt, Barbara Harding and family; uncle, Buddy Harrell; cousins, Troy Harrell, Jr., Robert Harrell, Marion Reeves, Manuel Alegria, Debbie Alegria, Tim Harding and Danny Harding as well as numerous others.
A visitation with friends and family will be held on Wednesday, June 3rd from 5:00- 7 PM at Fry Gibbs Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be Thursday at 10:00 AM at Fry Gibbs. Burial will follow at Providence Cemetery. Pastor Mark Sanders will officiate. Acting as pallbearers will be Bob Harrell, Troy Harrell, Jr., Timmy Harding and Danny Harding.
