James Walter Carter, 78, of Paris, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at Paris Regional Health.
Memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Bright-Holland Funeral Home with Rev. Wade White officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
Mr. Carter, the son of John Morris Carter & Bobbie Leona Smith Carter, was born March 30, 1945, in Dallas, TX.
He attended Clinton P. Russell Elementary School in Dallas, Boude Storey Junior High School in Dallas, and graduated from South Oak Cliff High School in 1963. He worked with the United States Postal Service, as a letter carrier, for 15 years. James then went into management with the Postal Service and remained there until retirement after spending a total of 35 years of service.
He was a Ham Radio operator for more than 50 years and was a member of the Lone Star Corvette Club. James was a drag racing enthusiast and on occasion, he himself raced. He was an amateur photographer, and his favorite place in the world was Colorado.
He was a member of His Place Fellowship.
His parents, a grandson, Lance Corp. Benjamin Hardgrove, a brother, Waid Wilcoxin, and a sister, Cleo Holden preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Eubank Carter, whom he married on March 6, 1965, building 58 years of family and memories, two children, Jerry Carter & wife Karen and Jamie Woodard & husband Randy, grandchildren, Michael Hardgrove, Jessica Hardgrove, Jenna Woodard, Race Woodard, Reed Woodard, Matthew Cosio & wife Cheyenne, and Bryson Cosio, great grandchildren, Benjamin Hardgrove, Jett Ramsey, and Emaly Cosio, a brother-in-law whom he thought of as a brother, Charles Eubank & wife Diane along with several nieces & nephews and a host of friends.
