James Robert “Butch” Whiteman, 79 of Paris, passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2025.
A graveside service has been set for Saturday, August 16, 2025 at 11:00 am at Evergreen Cemetery Open Air Chapel with Rev. Ray Evers officiating. No visitation hour will be observed.
Butch was born in Clarksville, Texas on December 22, 1945 to Robert and Carmen Wilson Whiteman. Butch was kind, quiet, smart funny and generous to a fault. At a lively Christmas party in the 60’s Butch was approached to buy Harvey Florist (formerly Goree Greenhouses) from the Harvey family who were longtime friends. On a whim, he gave up his teaching career, purchased the business and served the floral industry for over 45 years. He closed the florist in 2023.
He is survived by his partner and best friend, Travis Bryant; numerous cousins; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; numerous other family members.
If desired, memorials may be made to the Lamar County Humane Association, Babby Gunn’s Animal Rescue or the Downtown Paris Food Bank.
A special thanks to Platinum Home Health and Hospice for their care.
