James Andrew Zidermanis Dodson, known as Andrew to family and friends, passed away Sunday, Sept. 21, 2025, at his home at the age of 35.
There will be a gathering of family and friends to celebrate Andrew’s life at the Presbyterian Church in Honey Grove on Saturday, Sept. 27th from 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. A graveside service is scheduled at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27th at Pleasant Hill Cemetery with Rev. Terry Paul Cunningham officiating. Bright-Holland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Andrew was born on Feb. 1, 1990, in Paris, TX. He graduated from Honey Grove High School in 2009, where he was in all sports, quarterback, and loved by fellow students and teachers. In 2011, he joined the United States Army. Upon his honorable discharge from the military, he entered Lineman School where he graduated top of his class. Andrew then began his career as a lineman. At the time of his untimely passing, he had risen to the level of foreman. During times of natural disasters, he would travel across the United States to volunteer as a lineman. Andrew was an avid golfer, and when he had time away from work, he’d travel across the state to play golf. The absolute joy of his life was spending time with his son, Grant, teaching him sports, letting him drive the golf cart, and doing father-son things together.
He was preceded in death by a grandfather, Homer Neal Garner, Jr.
Survivors include his mother, Rudite Dae Garner Peel and husband Carl, his father, James Earl Dodson, a son, Grant Hampton Dodson, his grandmother, Daigone Garner, a half-brother, Chris Dodson, uncles and aunts, John Edward Garner and wife Melissa, Homer Neal Garner III and wife Kristi, Arija Priest and husband Jeff, and Daiga Wheat and husband Todd, cousins, Olivia, Grady, Asa, Micha, Cameron, Emma, Cort, and Gannon, and second cousins, Michael, Avery, and Lila along with a plethora of friends.
