Jackie Mann Morgan, 87, of Paris, Texas, passed away on April 29, 2018, at her home with family at her side.
Funeral services are set for 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2018, in the chapel of Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home with Brother Wade White officiating. A graveside service at Evergreen Cemetery will follow.
Jackie was born in Hall County, Texas to Floyd and Lois Patterson Mann on June 15, 1930. She graduated from Paris High School where she was a cheerleader. Thereafter, she attended Paris Junior College where she also cheered.
She met and began dating Wilbur Pat (Buddy) Morgan after he returned from World War II having earned two Bronze Stars. On August 22, 1948, Jackie and Buddy were married. They had two children, Michael Morgan and Mickey Morgan Reed. She and Buddy were married for more than 50 years until his passing in 1999. Jackie was a buyer and divisional manager for Belk Department Store, which she loved and where she spent her entire career.
Jackie was of the Church of Christ faith and spent many years as a member of both the Lamar Avenue and Bonham Street Churches of Christ.
Jackie was extremely committed to her family and was affectionately known as “Nanny” or “Nan” by her family and friends of the family for over 40 years. She was an excellent southern cook and was famous for her chocolate pie and many other sweets. Jackie led the Morgan family as its matriarch for 6 decades and remained deeply involved in her children’s, grandchildren’s and even great grandchildren’s lives through her final days. She will be profoundly missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother, and her son.
Jackie is survived by her daughter, Mickey Morgan Reed and husband Gerald of Clarksville; her grandson, Jason K. Burress and wife Christina of McKinney; her granddaughter, Letta Burger and husband Adam of Roanoke. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Kate Hines, Klaire Hines, Kason Burger, Luke Burress, Morgan Burress and Emerson Burress. Additional surviving family members are sister-in-law, Ann Mann of Paris; sister-in-law, Zora Hicks of Lindale; niece, Jamie Easterwood and husband Dan; niece, Sally Ruthart, and husband Will; nephew, Jeff Mann and wife Nicole; nephew, Steve Hicks and wife Patti; nephew, Bill Hicks and wife Angie; niece, Kristy Adams and husband Larry, niece Kathy Hicks and several great-nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Patterson, Jeff Mann, Dan Easterwood, Jack Allen, Adam Burger, Will Ruthart, Gerry Hines, and Tom Webb.
