Former Red River Valley Fair Association’s Executive Director on Jan. 6 plead guilty to the theft of property between $2,500-$30,000, according to court records. The Sixth Judicial District grand jury found the money was taken from the Red River Valley Fair Association in 2021, “without the effective consent of the owner and with intent to deprive the owner of the property.”
According to Ben Kaminar, assistant county and district attorney, Steven Tucker pleaded guilty and was placed on 5-years felony probation. Probation terms include restitution of about $11,000, with the first $2,000 due within 30 days.
Shortly after the fair’s beloved Rita Haynes passed away in 2021, Steven Tucker was named Executive Director and appointed his wife, Susan, as the executive assistant. On Sept. 1, 2022, Steven and Susan were charged with theft of property.
On Sept. 1, 2022, the two turned themselves into Lamar County Jail at about 11:30 a.m., and released shortly after, on $15,000 bonds each.
The Tuckers have long careers in education – Steven was a teacher with Paris ISD from 1995-Aug. 9, 2021, where he took a position with Windham School District. As of Sept. 2022, Steven is no longer with the WSD. Susan worked for Paris ISD for more than 15 years in the Special Services for 1st-6th grade. ON May 27, 2020, she left the district.
Kaminar said Susan’s case is currently pending.
