The Boys & Girls Club of the Red River Valley will release 5,000 rubber turtles during the Great Paris Turtle Float in front of Love Civic Center in memory of Johnny Stallings.
Set for June 5, 2021, the 18th Annual Johnny Stallings Memorial Great Paris Turtle Float commemorates the son of Paris native and professional football coach Gene Stallings. The Great Paris Turtle Float involves community-adopted turtles floating their way to the finish line in a stream of water near Love Civic Center on S. Collegiate St.
All proceeds from the race will benefit the Boys & Girls Club of the Red River Valley.
“The public is invited to adopt and cheer on the turtles,” the Boys and Girls Club posted on social media.
The fastest turtle will win $3,000, the second-place turtle will win $2,000 and third place will win $1,000. Plus, 10 turtles will be randomly pulled to receive $50 each. To adopt a turtle, they are $10 apiece or a herd of 11 for $100.
Turtles are up for adoption by contacting any of the Boys & Girls Club board members or visiting the office at 1530 N.E. 1st Street in Paris or online here.
Turtles will race away from the starting line at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 5.
