Grayson Lee Settle, 76, of Deport, TX, formerly of Del Rio, TX, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2024, at TMC Bonham Hospital.
Cremation is under the care and direction of Bright-Holland Funeral Home. The family will schedule a memorial service in Del Rio at a later date.
Mr. Settle, the son of Selwin Settle & Shirley Thorson Settle, was born Nov. 9, 1947, in Chicago, IL.
During his early years, the family moved to Del Rio, TX. Grayson graduated from Del Rio High School in 1967. He immediately joined the United States Army and was sent to Vietnam. He was honorably discharged from the military in 1970. Grayson then began a career with GTE Telephone, retiring after 17 years. He then began working for Amistad Propane where he remained until his retirement.
He enjoyed helping people and always cooked for the Del Rio Host Lions Club wild game dinner. He found joy in metal detecting, arrow head hunting, fishing, and hunting. His pride and joy was his 1951 Chevy Sedan, which was painted as a rippling flag. Everyone in Del Rio knew that car and that it was Grayson driving. He was affectionately known as everyone’s “One Eyed Gringo”.
His parents and a son, Grayson Lee Settle, Jr. preceded him in death.
Survivors include three daughters, Tammi Rebecca Sinclair (Clay), Jessica Leigh Settle, and Sarah Elizabeth Settle, grandchildren, Clay Aaron Sinclair, Jr., Brett Lee Settle Clark, Ashlie Lane Sinclair, Madilynn Hope Settle, and Grayson Kyle Settle, a great granddaughter, Eloise Mae Sinclair, one brother, Mike Settle, and one sister, Karen Stanley along with several nieces & nephews and a host of friends.
