The next full moon to illuminate the night sky is named – in what some refer to as appropriate – the Full Snow Moon, and it is expected to peak this coming weekend, according to the Farmers Almanac.
This weekend’s full Moon also referred to as the Hunger and Storm Moon, is set to peak early Saturday morning at about 3:15 a.m.
The Farmers Almanac said the reason February’s full moon is called Full Snow Moon is that the heaviest snowfalls are typically seen during this month.
“Some tribes also referred to this Moon as the Full Hunger Moon, since harsh weather conditions in their areas made hunting very difficult,” the Farmers Almanac states.
The Cherokee tribe has referred to this upcoming full Moon as the Bone Moon.
