The Human Resources Council annual Fan Drive is happening now through June 20, 2025, with box fans going to Meals on Wheels recipients.
Each year, the Human Resources Council gives out around 200 fans annually to seniors, disabled individuals, and veterans.
“Many of our clients are living on less than $1000 a month, which means many will choose not to run their air conditioner because they can’t afford to,” said Shelly Braziel, Executive Director. “And then, of course, there are others who simply don’t have a means to cool their home, either because it’s an older home or their A/C broke and they couldn’t afford to fix it.”
80% of all individuals in the U.S. who die from heat related causes are over the age of 60.
“May isn’t even over yet, and we’ve already had to provide 30 fans to people in need. This number is likely to increase significantly between now and August.”
Those who want to donate box fans can drop them off at Meals on Wheels kitchen, 1273 NW 19th Street in Paris or East Texas Broadcasting, 2810 Pine Mill Road in Paris.
