COMMERCE – The longest active streak of postseason appearances at East Texas A&M University continues as the Lion Volleyball team has clinched a berth in the Southland Conference Tournament, which will be hosted right here in Commerce, and takes on top-seeded Stephen F. Austin in the first round.
The Lions have qualified for the postseason for the 14th year in a row, which is the longest active streak among any sport at East Texas A&M. The Lions and the Ladyjacks face-off on Hunt Regional Healthcare court on Friday night with first serve set for 7 p.m.
The two teams met in the Field House during the regular season with SFA winning in three sets. The Lions went 9-18 overall and 7-9 in SLC action, matching last season’s total in conference play, which is tied for most since joining the Southland. East Texas A&M tied with HCU for seventh place, but the Huskies got the tiebreaker by virtue of a points comparison in the two meetings between the schools. The Lions are looking for their first postseason win since 2022.
East Texas A&M is serving as hosts of a conference tournament for the first time since 2019.
SFA tied with UTRGV for a share of the Southland title, with both teams going 15-1 in Southland Conference play. SFA went 20-7 overall and have won their last eight matches coming into Friday night.
The winner of Friday’s quarterfinals will advance to face the winner of fourth-seeded Lamar and fifth-seeded UIW in the semifinals on Saturday at 5 p.m. The SLC Tournament Championship match is set for 2 p.m. next Sunday.
