Elmer Earl “Dicky” Self, 80, of Powderly, passed away Friday, June 20, 2025, at Legend Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 24th at Bright-Holland Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Hutchison officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 5 – 7 p.m.
Mr. Self, the son of Emmet Earl “Dick” Self and Flora Aveline Seals Self, was born Aug. 2, 1944, in Oklahoma.
His career as Maintenance Supervisor with the Texas Department of Transportation in Lamb County spanned 33 years before his retirement. He loved dealing with and working on cars. Following retirement, he and his wife enjoyed going to Colorado each summer and camping for ten years. When he moved back to Lamar County, he found pleasure in working in the pastures and cutting firewood with his brother, Bobby Self. He and his wife enjoyed 4-wheeling with their grandchildren. Dicky was a member of the Powderly United Methodist Church.
His parents, two children, Michael Self and Connie Williams, and a sister, Sue Fuller preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Self, children, Julie Ricks and husband Dwayne, Rick Strange and wife Carole, James Strange and wife Cindy, and Randy Strange and wife Karen, grandchildren, Ashely, Amanda, Brady, Susan, Katie, Amy, Jared, and Tyler, 8 great grandchildren, and his brother, Bobby Self and wife Jane along with numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Honorary casket bearers will be: Robert Self, Matt Morgan, Rick Strange, James Strange, Randy Strange, and Brady Ricks.
