FRISCO — The Dallas Cowboys announced Monday their decision to place the exclusive franchise tag on starting quarterback Dak Prescott.
With the move, Prescott and the Cowboys have until July 15 to work out a long-term deal. If no contract can be agreed upon, Prescott will play for about $33 million this season for Dallas and the sides would have to try again to strike a deal next offseason.
Since it is an exclusive franchise tag, Prescott is not permitted to talk to any other teams in the league. He is the sixth quarterback in NFL history to receive the exclusive franchise tag.
Prescott had a stellar season behind center as he threw a career-high 4,902 yards with 30 passing touchdowns.
