“It is with regret that Cooper High School announces the cancellation of this Friday night’s game versus Detroit. We are also canceling the JV game Thursday evening, but the JH games will be played as scheduled,” said the school online.
The school stated that the student who tested positive is not a football player, however, for the safety of all students they have asked students and staff that have come into close contact with this student self-quarantine for 14-days.
“Parents have been notified personally by way of a phone call if their student was in close contact to set up remote learning and isolate as a precaution. This is certainly a regrettable decision, but one the district must make at this time. We are continuing to consult and receive guidance from UIL in hopes that our game next week can be played as scheduled.”
With the cancelation of this week’s game, Homecoming festivities have been rescheduled.
“That is an important event in a student’s life and we certainly want to provide these memories for our students. It is our desire, barring unforeseen circumstances, that we will reschedule both the Homecoming Parade and Community Pep Rally for Tuesday, September 29, 2020.”
The parade will begin at 7:00 p.m. (people can begin lining up at 6:00) from the old high school per the usual route. The school plans to hold the Community Pep Rally immediately afterward at Bulldog Stadium. The Homecoming Ceremony will take place at 7:00 p.m. prior to the 7:30 p.m. kickoff versus Alba-Golden on October 2, 2020.
“We thank you for your cooperation as we work diligently to ensure safety for our students, and our efforts to continue to provide educational and extracurricular pursuits for all of our Bulldogs.”
