A pick-up driver is lucky to have escaped with minimal injuries on July 29, after his truck pulling a cattle trailer collided with a semi-trailer.

The Paris Police Department, Paris Fire Department, and Paris EMS responded to the two-vehicle accident in the 2700 block of NW Loop 286 around 9:00 a.m.

“A semi-truck turned into the path of a pickup truck hauling a trailer loaded with cattle,” stated Lt. Doug Thompson of the Paris Police Department in a statement.

The driver of the pick-up, which was towing a trailer loaded with cattle, was pinned in his truck for over 30-minutes as firefighters used the Jaws of Life to extract him from his truck.

“Several of the cattle were injured, one ran off and couldn’t be found,” Thompson said.

The driver of the semi-truck, who was uninjured in the accident, was cited for Improper right turn/wide which resulted in the cause of the wreck, said police.

“The driver of the cattle truck received care on the scene by EMS but left by private vehicle with family members,” he further stated.

The cattle truck driver’s injuries were listed as non-incapacitating, although officials did say he received some minor injuries from the collision.

The Loop was shut down for an extended amount of time to allow officials to clear the scene.
