Clara May Porteous was born on May 1, 1930 in Paris, Texas to Paul and Lillian Porteous. She attended Fourth Ward Elementary School, graduated from Paris High School in 1947 and attended St. Joseph School of Nursing in Ft. Worth. After college she moved back to Paris where she nursed for 46 years. She worked at the Lamar County Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital and finished her years at McCuistion Hospital/PRMC. She was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church.
Clara had several loves; the love of her church and those that attended there and she loved working in the yard. Her yard was always immaculate with many rose bushes and other beautiful flowers/bushes. She was devoted to her mother. Clara retired from her nursing career earlier than planned to take care of her. She loved making rosaries, over 2500 were sent and given to those in the Military, the Mission field and church members. They have literally been sent all over the world.
She is survived by her sister, Barbara Porteous Curtis. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Roy Owings and James “Rusty” Owings; nephews, Gary Owings, Roy Owings III, Brian Owings, David Owings; niece, Elaina Owings Hutto.
