During Monday nights city council meeting, a motion to increase the number of PEDC Board Members from 5 to 7 failed after a very tense exchange between Council Members Hughes, Pilgrim, and Portugal.

The vote was needed after the previous vote on the same issue was deemed to not be in compliance with State Law.

As there are currently six board members, the Council will now have to determine how to address the extra board member currently serving.

Council also stated that the City of Paris will enter into a lawsuit against Paris Regional Medical Center regarding tax abatements. No further details are available at this stage.

Finally, the council unanimously appointed Gary Savage to fill the District 3 seat until the next regular election in May 2022.

This is a developing story and will be updated as we receive more information.
