Last week, Chisum senior Kason Fortner achieved a significant milestone in his basketball career, scoring his 1,000-point Varsity point during a game against Prairiland.
Fortner made the Varsity team as a sophomore and at the beginning of the season, he needed 419 points to reach his goal of 1,000.
“As he got closer to his goal, he really wanted to achieve it in his home gym, and he did just that against cross-country rivals Prairiland,” said mom, Kenda.
Going into the game, Fortner was just 16-points away from 1,000 and scored eight of those in the first half.
“It all came down to the wire. He got fouled with 4.6 seconds left in the game but still needed 2-points. He had to make both free throws to get his 1,000 points and he did.”
Not only did he reached his 1,000-point goal this season, but he had a career-high of 35-points earlier in the season against Sulphur Bluff.
Fortner was also a drum major for the Chisum Marching Band and a regional qualified in cross county with his team in the fall.
Teammate Thomas Thiessen, is hoping to reach his 1,000-point milestone tonight, Feb. 4, 2025, against Lone Oak. Thiessen is a junior who made the varsity team in his freshman year.
