In order to avoid an upset stomach and other health hazards, hand sanitizer products marketed for children were recalled. On Thursday, Ashtel Studios announced that it is recalling six types of .84-ounce sanitizer bottles to help prevent consumption. The recall was enacted due to the products’ packaging resemblance to a “food and drink pouch.” This information was confirmed by a recall notice from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Each of the hand sanitizer products is under the brand name of Smart Care. The products featured children’s characters from PAW Patrol, Hot Wheels, Barbie, Trolls JoJo Siwa, and Minions.
A spokesperson from Smart Care said no other products are affected by the recall order. In addition to that, Smart Care is taking extra precautions to negate these issues.
“As safety is our number one priority, we have switched out this packaging for our bottled hand sanitizer to eliminate any misconception or concern,” a company spokesperson said. “We regret any inconvenience this may have caused.”
These products were available to purchase in Canada and America, but have since been recalled. Those who still have a faulty product are advised to destroy it immediately.
The FDA previously warned consumers to purchase hand sanitizer products with caution. Upon ingestion, children can suffer from alcohol toxicity. The effects can vary from impaired motor skills to possible death. The FDA said a small amount of the product is much more dangerous when consumed by a child. For more news coverage, click here.
