Brigida Tabangcora Tacuyan Rian embraced Our Beloved Jesus face to face, Sunday, February 1, 2026.
She was born October 8, 1948, in Nagba, Tabungan, Iloilo, Philippines. Number 6 in line of 12 kids, she grew up surrounded by faith, family, and a love for nature and animals, starting at age 4 with a pet monkey during her stay in the beautiful and fruitful land of Taras. With the encouragement of her father (Tatay), she decided to pursue a career in nursing to hopefully, one day, go to the United States of America, to help support her family. In 1970, she earned her RN, BSN from St. Anne’s Hospital and School of Nursing in Manila, Philippines. Then, in 1974, that one day came, and she got the opportunity of a lifetime, to practice nursing in the states. Her first assignment began in Atlanta, Georgia, where she had many firsts: her first car, first apartment, and first Christmas present, a guitar. Thenanother call came, and she, along with 2 other nurses (Lina and Hermie), travelled to Paris, Texas, in 1976, to practice nursing at St. Joseph Hospital, where she would eventually, retire after 42 years of service at Paris Regional Medical Center in 2020.
While living her young and fun years in Paris, Texas, flirting with radio DJ’s, road tripping around, and summer picnics at Pat Mayse lake, the love of her life, a pig farmer from Ohio, found her from a picture sent to him by his friend (pare), George. Levi sent her a Valentine’s card, and the rest is history. They built their life here in Paris, Texas, had a kid, and lived and danced the rest of their days away until their last breath, a true witness of love.
Brigida loved with her whole being and carried joy wherever she went, always finding the right moment to make you laugh. If there was music, no matter where we were at, and it hit just right, Brigida was the first to get dancing and you couldn’t help but feel her joy and want to join in! Her favorite above all, was singing, especially harmony or 2nd voice as she would call it, when she sang with the choir at Our Lady of Victory. She loved gardening, especially flowers, and always brought you some on your special day. Prayer and faith in God, was her stronghold, unwavering through every storm and a smile for every blessing. Her devotion to Mary, gave her strength through every rosary she prayed and song she sang, modeling her life in Mary’s love for her son, Jesus, the greatest witness of a mother’s love.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Gerardo Tacuyan and Cristita Tabangcora Tacuyan, brothers and sisters, Prudencia Tanalgo, Leodegario Tacuyan, Fernando Tacuyan, Cristina Taypen, Toribio Tacuyan, Leopoldo Tacuyan, Maria Victoria Tacuyan, and loving husband, Levino Robrigado Rian. She is survived by her daughter, Christine Renee Rian, sisters, Teresita Tacuyan, Criselda Hodgens, Isabel Tacuyan, and Sr. Gertita Tacuyan CM, and countless cousins, nieces , nephews, apos, God-children and fur babies: Frankie, Charlie, Diega, Goldie, Mikey, Julio, and Marcelino.
