UPDATE: The Paris Police Department have released the name of the suspect in the officer-involved shooting Saturday night.

“The person killed in the officer involved shooting on October 20th has been identified as Edward Paul Zumski, III 35, of Paris,” said Chief Bob Hundley. 

Mr. Zumski’ s relatives have been notified.

A correction is needed to the previously released statement regarding the stabbing victim being transported to a Dallas, hospital, the victim was not transferred and remains hospitalized here in Paris.

Investigation is ongoing into the officer involved shooting by the Texas Rangers, the police department investigation regarding the stabbing victim is ongoing as well.

Officers involved in the shooting will remain on paid administrative leave while the investigation progresses.

UPDATE: Paris Police Officers responded to a call of a stabbing at the Kings Inn in Paris around 10:13 p.m. Saturday night, October 20th.

“Upon arrival, officers found a victim in the parking lot bleeding from chest wounds and was confronted by the suspect in the stabbing who had a handgun. The individual pointed the weapon at the officers and was shot,” said Chief Hundley.

The individual was pronounced deceased at the scene, the stabbing victim was transported first to PRMC by ambulance and has since been transported to a Dallas area hospital for treatment.

By request of the police department, the Texas Rangers with the Texas Department of Public Safety will be conducting the investigation of the officer involved shooting.

The officers involved in the shooting were not injured and have been placed on administrative leave while the investigation takes place per policy.

The name of the deceased will not be released until next of kin are notified. Officers involved will not be identified at this time.

BREAKING: Paris PD officer involved shooting at King Inns in Paris. Sources say the suspect approached the officer with what appeared to be a weapon in their hand and reports of the suspect stabbing a woman.

One has been taken to hospital. The officers was not injured.
