Billy Gene Walker, born July 13, 1943, to Emma Leatherwood Walker and James Adam Walker, passed away peacefully on March 7 at Paris Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his loved ones.
Billy proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, where he held the rank of Lance Corporal. He carried that same strength, loyalty, and sense of duty into his everyday life. Bill was known for his kind heart and his ability to make friends wherever he went. To many, he was more than a friend—he was like a father.
He loved his family deeply and treasured the time he spent with them. Billy enjoyed the simple things in life, especially visiting with family and friends and going garage saling, always hoping to find a hidden treasure or share a good story. His warmth, humor, and willingness to help others made him someone people naturally gravitated toward.
He is survived by his daughters, Sheila and husband Brad Carroll of Grand Saline, and Tina Harbert of Paris. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Tasha Walker-Carroll; Tyler Walker-Carroll and wife Allison; Megan and husband Carter Spann; and Logan and husband Jody Wilcox.
Billy was blessed with several great-grandchildren: Cadence, Raylea, Gunner, Palmer, and Emilia, who brought him great pride and joy. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews who will carry his memory forward.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Adam Walker and Emma Leatherwood Walker, and his siblings: Martha Tingle, James Lee “Sonny” Walker, Lily May (Sis) Moore, Henry Ray Walker, and Charles Edward “Dick” Walker.
Billy was loved deeply by his family and by the many people whose lives he touched. His kindness, laughter, and steady presence will be greatly missed, but the memories he created will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Services will be conducted Tuesday, March 10, at 2:00 p.m. at the Evergreen Chapel of Evergreen Cemetery with Pastor Nathan Darst officiating.
Pallbearers: Brad Carroll, Tyler Walker-Carroll, Gunner Spann, Carter Spann, Jody Wilcox, Christopher Smith, and Earl Posey.
